Carnival: Interactive Aquarium

For Carnival, our mission is to bring fun to those who aren't onboard one of the ships. So, to spread the Carnival fun on land, we created virtual aquariums in six cities – Baltimore, Dallas, DC, Houston, Manhattan, and L.A. This isn’t your average goldfish bowl. No, this is a high-tech virtual aquarium stocked with motion sensor technology, voice recognition, Flash animation and mobile gaming software. The fish reacts to movements of pedestrians

who could then create their own fish by making ridiculous sounds into their cell phones. Once they created their fish, they could control it with their cell phone keypad to see if they could eat the fish food, which would make their fish grow and morph. We didn’t break a world record this time, but it was pretty cool nonetheless.

The Interaction

The voice recognition was super fun. Depending on how high or low the pitch of your voice was you would get a different sized fish, big and bloated for a deep voice, small and skinny for higher pitched sounds.

The fish were dynamically generated from a library of fins, bodies, tails and eyes, allowing for a possible 15,000 different combinations.
